Mebrahtu Atewebrhan, PhD

Dr. Mebrahtu Atewebrhan was a visiting research fellow at Warwick University, UK. He has interest and experience in marine and coastal ecology; biodiversity conservation; climate change impacts on coastal ecosystems and people; coastal livelihoods and environmental sustainability.

He was a lecturer at the University of Asmara, Eritrea where he taught courses in Marine Ecology and conducted research focusing on monsoon related seasonal aspects in marine ecology of the Southern Red Sea. He did his post doctoral research with the Wildlife Conservation Society in Kenya on climate change associated recent environmental disturbances on Western Indian Ocean coral reefs.

He obtained his BSc degree in Marine Biology and Fisheries from the University of Asmara, Eritrea, MSc in Marine Ecology from the Free University of Brussels, Belgium, and PhD in Biology from the University of Groningen, the Netherlands.

He has helped to advise Blue Ventures on marine ecology, fisheries and aquaculture since 2011.
