From carrying out coral reef monitoring to attending conferences and writing reports, my skills as a scientist are tested and improved every day. Another fantastic aspect of the job is the chance to truly integrate with the community in which you work, and to see that the projects we do are directly beneficial in both the short- and long-term.
A day-in-the-life of work with Blue Ventures is impossible to define. A typical week might include collaborating with a local partner organisation to conduct manatee surveys, representing Blue Ventures at a regional meeting for reef health, carrying out educational programmes in the local school, and developing a project to tackle invasive lionfish with colleagues in Madagascar and London.
The job calls for commitment and passion, and in return you are trusted and provided with unparalleled opportunities for personal and professional development. I think I have never done anything so rewarding.
