Blue Ventures research programmes are aimed at exploring ways to promote the sustainable use of tropical marine and coastal resources.

We take our lead from our local and international partners and research steering committee. Working with our partner organisations, we identify environmental issues critical to the community, and work to develop conservation, education and research plans to address them.

Our partnerships have enabled the pooling of resources, talents and experiences from a range of national and international organisations, providing a wealth of technical expertise to assist in the successful development of research initiatives.

The current focus of our work is in developing a community-run Marine Protected Area in the village of Andavadoaka, southwestern Madagascar. We are also involved in a range of regional conservation and education initiatives elsewhere in Madagascar and beyond.

Blue Ventures' Madagascar research program is undergoing rapid growth and diversification as we develop our understanding of the ecology, economy and community of the Andavadoaka region.  Our work in the Andavadoaka aims to identify strategies and targets that local communities can work towards to develop sustainable local environmental management plans for the region’s unique marine and coastal environment. These plans focus on improving the quality of life of the local communities who depend on the area’s marine resources while maintaining the biological diversity and productivity of the reefs.
