Ny Aina Andrianarivelo

Conservation Officer Conservation Officer Antananarivo, Madagascar

Ny Aina joined the Blue Ventures team in March 2014 as our Conservation Officer, and is based in Antananarivo. He has a background in natural resource management and environmental policy, gained through an advanced degree in water resource management and forestry, and a research masters in environment and development from the University of Antananarivo.

As a “forest man”, he is proud to have participated in the forest biomass and carbon measurements of the wet, dry and spiny forests of Madagascar for Conservation International as part of REDD+ project implementation. Working with international conservation organisations like UNDP-GEF, WWF and InterCooperation as a consultant allowed him to gain a wide experience of participatory approaches to natural resource management in Madagascar. Ny Aina has also lectured on the creation of marine protected areas at a private institute, and is keen to apply his knowledge and experience of community management and policy to support the development of Blue Ventures’ projects in Madagascar.

“In my view, Madagascar’s conservation issues are not due to a lack of technical skills, but the application of effective policies from a local to national level. I see my role in Blue Ventures as an intermediary between developments at the national policy level, and the exciting work of our dedicated field teams.”
