Gildas has managed Blue Ventures' community conservation programmes along Madagascar's southwest coast for more than seven years, supporting the uptake of periodic octopus reserves, overseeing the development of the Velondriake locally managed marine area, and running a social marketing campaign to encourage the elimination of destructive fishing practices.

Gildas has a masters in law from the University of Toliara, Madagascar, and a masters in communications from Georgetown University, Washington DC (in collaboration with RARE Conservation). He has published numerous peer-reviewed papers with Blue Ventures, and has represented the organisation at international conferences including the World Conservation Congress in Jeju, South Korea, and the International Marine Protected Areas Congress in Marseilles, France.
