Job Description:

The role of the Project Coordinator involves planning, directing and overseeing all community marine protected area activities carried out within ‘Velondriake’ community MPA (CMPA), situated 250 km north of the regional capital Toliara.

Responsibilities:

· Develop and manage the aims, objectives and strategic plan of Blue Ventures Conservation in southwest Madagascar

· Coordinate Velondriake Committee meetings and continue Blue Ventures’ logistical and technical support of the Velondriake CMPA

· Work in close conjunction with all project partners (Service de Pêche, Marine Institute at the University of Toliara, Wildlife Conservation Society,  Madagascar National Parks, WWF etc.) to maximise the benefit brought to local, regional and national conservation priorities

· Financial budgeting and management of the project

· Chair research staff meetings and coordinate other project managers

· Management of Malagasy staff and community scholars

· Regular reporting to Research Director and Coordinator and grantees as required

· Identify new funding opportunities and proposals

Requirements:

· BSc (or equivalent) or higher qualification in marine conservation, development or related field

· At least 2-3 years practical experience of involvement in community-centred conservation and environmental education initiatives

· At least 2-3 years experience of managing a multi-cultural team

· Project management, leadership and delegation experience

· Financial and budget management experience

· Conversational fluency in French and English

· Dynamic, enthusiastic, hard-working and self-motivated

· Experience of scientific report writing and preparation of research papers for publication

· Experience of working in the Western Indian Ocean (desirable)

· Conversational fluency in Malagasy (desirable)
