Lisa joined the BVE Madagascar team in September 2013. She has an MSc in Marine Environmental Protection and BSc in Ocean Science from Bangor University and has worked as a divemaster in Thailand.
During 2012 Lisa conducted her MSc thesis research in Zanzibar, Tanzania, investigating relationships between mangrove forest degradation and below ground carbon storage. An additional aim was to improve understanding of community functioning and species traits for carbon storage to aid development of Payment for Ecosystem Services schemes and REDD+ initiatives and sustainable management of mangrove ecosystems in East Africa. Having experienced the need for well-developed community-based management alongside the benefits of sustainable, alternative livelihood programmes Lisa is delighted to have been welcomed to the Blue Ventures team in Madagascar.
