Shawn is an adventurer and scientist who loves to explore our vast underwater world. He started diving in 2001 with the American Academy of Underwater Sciences (AAUS) Scientific Diver Program at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF), after attaining a BS in Biology. Since then he has become a PADI/NAUI/DAN instructor with more than 100 certification, been a certified dive medic, crewmember for various hyperbaric chambers, and ventured into the technical diving realm with closed circuit rebreathers (CCRs). He has performed research dives in the Arctic, Antarctic, Alaska, Oregon, California, Madagascar, and now Belize - logging over 1350 dives to date and working on projects involving marine mammals all the way down to foraminifera, all of which he finds fascinating! Through these ventures Shawn enjoys continuing to learn about, document, and share his knowledge and experience of the underwater world to promote quality research, education, outreach, conservation, and diving safety.
